County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health

Mission:

To protect health, prevent disease, and promote health and well-being.

Program Highlights/Accomplishments:

The Los Angeles Department of Public Health has developed an Adult Viral Hepatitis Prevention Plan 2010-2015. This plan outlines how Los Angeles County proposes to address viral hepatitis through three overarching goals:

  1. Reduce the number of people newly infected with viral hepatitis.
  2. Reduce morbidity and mortality due to viral hepatitis
  3. Improve quality of life for people chronically infected with and affected by viral hepatitis.

The Adult Viral Hepatitis Prevention Coordinator facilitated integration of the local hepatitis B and C resource guides into a web-based Los Angeles County HIV/AIDS resource guide (www.hivla.org). The online guide allows the user to enter a zip code, a mile-radius range, and the type of hepatitis service he/she is seeking, after which a list of programs that provide these hepatitis services are displayed.
